During the early years, boys and girls are at greater risk for teenage acne breakouts, when the oil glands in the body start over-producing sebum (skin oil that can resemble grease). Adding to the problem, your body sheds dead skin cells constantly, and some people have “sticky” skin cells that don’t shed normally they just remain attached to the skin. In people who have acne, these excess skin cells mixes with the oil and plug up the hair follicles.

The Common Myths

Quite a few myths are floating around out there about what causes acne. Let’s straighten some out right now.

- Dirt does not cause acne
- A blackhead may look like dirt plugging one of your pores, but that is not the cause.
- The sebum and skin cells mix together and sometimes rise to the opening of the pore. But the real cause is still deep inside the pore.
- Enjoy your chocolate and French fries. Indulging in these favorites does not increase the production of sebum in the skin.
- Some of you may have been told that sexual activity or masturbation can cause acne. Not true.

Who Gets More Acne?

While both boys and girls can get acne it’s more likely to be worse in boys because their bodies produce more skin oils.

Strangely enough, your immune system can come into play as well making you extra sensitive to the bacteria that get trapped in the hair follicles.

What Makes Acne Worse?

- If you use makeup, suntan products or hair products that contain oil, they can add to the pore-plugging problem.
- Being under stress like applying to schools, or struggling with grades, or even dating pressures can help bring out acne.
- During a girl’s period, hormone levels may create more sebum in the skin, which can worsen the breakouts.
- And, beware of the sun not only can it damage your skin and cause premature aging, it can also cause pimples.

While keeping your skin clean is an important part of treatment, remember to be gentle, no hard scrubbing, no picking or squeezing. You can survive teenage acne.

People who suffer from acne should, at the very least, learn what skin care products are available that will help keep acne under control. I’m sure you understand how that a ton of acne skin care products are available so it is not difficult to find skin care products, it is hard to figure out what is actually going to work for you. Also everyone is unique, so what works for you will not work for another person. Don’t get discouraged, you will find a product that works for you, it just may take some time to find the right thing.

Retin-a is a acne skin care product that is applied to your skin and to treat acne, acne scarring and stretch marks. There are other topically applied acne products out there such as essential oils. Essential oils have become very popular and can even be found in some grocery stores and large drug stores. You will definitely be able to find them in a natural foods store. Try specific essential oils such as tea tree oil, Rosewood oil, clove oil and Bergamot oil.

One prescription product that has benefited a lot of people is Accutane, but you must have a prescription from your doctor to buy this product. Accutane is only prescribed to people who have bad acne because this is a very strong medication that you swallow and it does have side effects. Never take any medication without looking into the side effects. Sometimes it seems as if the side effects are worse than the problem!

An extremely popular, non-prescription acne skin care product is ProActiv. ProActiv main fighting power is it’s prescription strength Benzoyl peroxide. This is a system with three parts to it; a renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner and repairing lotion.

If you do not have severe acne and are just starting your search for acne skin care, you should try the most natural products like the essential oils first, if those do not work then you can move on to more aggressive treatment and go from there. If you have severe acne then you should definitely be seeking the help of a professional. Specifically a dermatologist. They really are there to help you and you should not put off getting help from them. For example, my nephew had a severe case of acne. When they took him to the dermatologist that doctor told them that his face was totally infected. He ended up taking an antibiotic and everything cleared up beautifully. Now, he looks great! So you see there may be other things going on other than acne that you will not know unless you go to a doctor. The sooner you get your acne under control the happier and confident you will feel.

If you’re like most of us, you’ve probably had a bout or two with acne. Any teenager can tell you about the anguish that accompanies these nasty little bumps. Fortunately we now have many solutions to this old-as-time affliction.

If you are one of the 80% of human beings affected by acne, then you’ve probably used one or many over-the-counter, drugstore products. Many of these treatments, while fighting the break-outs to some extent, also cause dryness, redness, or itching. Then you’re stuck with additional problems. The key is to find out what products are right for you and your skin type.

Many acne fighting treatments available today are infused with active ingredients such as, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, both of which are proven acne fighters. Whether you’re looking for a drying agent (benzoyl peroxide) or an exfoliant (salicylic acid) should be considered prior to purchasing. Benzoyl peroxide, the drying agent works to dry up the oil-ridden skin, therefore vanquishing the pimples. Salicylic acid, on the other hand, is an exfoliant which are designed to slough dead skin cells from the face or body in order to unclog pores, hence relieving one cause of breakouts. Several cleansers, toners, and pads are available with this active ingredient.

No matter what kind of acne you have, it is always good to consult a dermatologist prior to treatment. Dermatologists can also prescribe prescription medication, which may be better and faster than an over-the-counter solution. Oral treatments are available in addition to topical creams and gels.

A popular acne product on the market today is Proactive Solution, which can be purchased online or possibly at your local shopping mall. Many devout users of this product swear by its effectiveness. If you watch television, you surely know what I’m talking about. If you are curious about this and virtually any other acne treatment, simply do an online search and you will be flooded with suggested solutions. Some of these are probably effective while others may not do anything. So it pays to be cautious.

Whether you’re afflicted with teenage blackheads and whiteheads, or merely some bothersome mild acne as an adult, there is a solution to your skin problems. While acne affects most of us at one point or another in our hectic lives, whether it’s brought on by hormones or stress, we don’t have to just take it. Acne can and does affect self-esteem, and should be dealt with before it gets severe. In the wonderful world of technology we all share, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take advantage of its innovations.

The most common cause of female adule acne is hormones. There are a variety of acne treatments available to you, depending on your hormone levels.

If you are a woman suffering from female acne it may be the cause of mild hormone changes, or it could be from a prolonged hormone imbalance. Regardless of the cause, there is a female acne treatment available.

Over-the counter products are available at any drug store or grocery store. These non-prescription acne treatments often contain benzoyl peroxide as an antibacterial cleansing agent. These include products such as Oxy 5 and Neutrogena. These are often used to treat mild forms of acne.

Birth control pills are a standard prescription used to help treat female acne, such as OrthoTryCyclen and Estrostep. Birth control does not always clear all female acne, and may need to be used with other treatment options, whether over the counter or by prescription.

If you have a hormone imbalance causing your acne, a doctor will be able to identify the cause. When your body has an elevated androgen level, increases in the testosterone hormone, it can cause acne. Hormone treatments can help stop the acne before it occurs.

Hormone treatments can help with the most severe acne. It blocks the androgens from stimulating the oil glands. Increased oil in the skin can clog pores and cause acne. Only a doctor can administer hormone treatments as it requires blood tests and also a prescription for oral medication.

Accutane is a prescription drug that is a concentrated form of Vitamin A and has been shown to help treat serious acne. This is a last resort, as it has serious side effects, such as birth defects if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. While this can be an effective treatment method, hormone treatment is often a better option.

The first step to any treatment is to visit a doctor or dermatologist. They can help identify the cause and recommend the right female acne treatment for you. Stop living with acne and start having clear skin.

If you are a teenager, you are sure to have found yourself looking for solutions on your terribly irritating acne. Well, you are not alone. Most teenagers go through a stage when the proliferation of acne is on its peak. Sadly, acne flare-ups don’t only occur during the teenage years. Some people may have even been spared during puberty yet the troubles of acne follows through the latter stages of life, more specifically during mid-years.

What causes this deviated variability on acne though during various stages of life is still not known. In fact, while acne has been studied even years before technologies for treatment had been devised, present day medicine cannot still answer issues concerning acne in a more comprehensive manner. Say, “why some people are more sensitive to the causes of acne while others have higher tolerance?”

Acne is caused by a skin bacteria called as propionibacterium acnes. Without this, acne is almost an impossibility. This is not the main culprit though. There must also be a suitable environment that would accommodate the accumulation of its growth.

Some people have excessively oily skin. These are those who are most prone to the development of acne since propionibacterium acnes thrive on sebum that accumulates on the follicles of the skin. The sebum, on the other hand, is an element of lubrication for the maintenance of healthy skin. Otherwise, the skin would be dull ad dry.

There are various misconceptions concerning acne. These may often provide logical claims yet it will always be good to verify information first before jumping to a conclusion that your acne is caused by another factor. Let us discuss in brief some of the common misconceptions related to acne.

Issues concerning foods

There are numerous studies which either claim that foods are related to acne or that there is no direct link between acne and foods. However, many stand on the account that some foods, especially those that contain excessively high content of oil can cause acne.

Because there is relatively high number of studies and many of them provide proofs on their claims, it is no longer certain whether such claims are fallacious or plain truths.

Nonetheless, there are a number of cases where proofs go deeper to concluding that while there may not be “direct” connections with regards to foods and acne, there are various instances when elements from certain foods can stimulate various hormones that ultimately cause acne. Well, it makes sense after all to refrain from eating foods that can excite the Pilosebaceous units to produce more sebum.

Hygiene and Acne

This fact is as plain as the nose on your face- acne is not caused by dirt.

This may have been the belief since most people link acne with skin infections. Fair enough, acne has some relevance with some skin conditions but this truth is still not enough to conclude that dirt truly can cause acne. In fact, the blockages on the skin that lead to acne are found deep into the roots of the hair follicle. Thus, it is impossible to wash acne away if you are targeting to “clean” the inner sections of the pores.

These classic examples are only two of the many myths that are often associated with acne. Be sure to check on the actual causes of acne first before falling into the trap of believing in misconceptions. After all, you would not want to fall victim into exacerbated acne flare-ups, would you?

Acne is caused by a wide array of factors, the most commonly cause for acne are poor hygiene, changes in the hormonal balance, some medications, including anabolic steroids, anti-epileptics drugs and anti-tuberculosis drugs, disorder of the skins oil glands, etc.

If you are looking for a healthy way to help keep your acne under control without resorting to the typical drugs that may cause more harm than good, green tea may be a treatment worth looking into, it is so important to understand what causes acne, because only then can you discover a cure to rid yourself of the disease.

Other acne causes comes from a disorder of the skins oil glands, as a result, oil builds up underneath the skin and induces bacteria to grow and multiply.

There are different types of acne, because the skin on areas such as your back is different from the skin on your face, for example,

Using chemical based creams to treat acne not only has side effects like red or dried skin, but can also harm the skin permanently, fortunately, there are some acne treatments on the market, use a natural cure for acne to prevent the condition and develop a very smooth skin in the process.

There are many different varieties of medications that are specifically targeted for the successful treatment of acne, but since every person has a different skin, and conditions may vary from one person to another, it is difficult to say which is the best overall prescription acne medication; prior to beginning any treatment regimen, you should consult a physician to prescribe the best treatment for you.

It is usually best to see a dermatologist to uncover the correct acne treatment product for your skin type, as they have a wider knowledge of the treatments available for your particular acne strain or skin blemish.

If the treatment does not work after six to eight weeks then that treatment may need to be discarded and replaced entirely.

There are a variety of alternatives for acne treatment including topical prescription creams, oral prescriptions or completely natural remedies which can actually be made at home, while herbal products may contain many natural facial treatment ingredients to help eliminate pimples and blackheads on your skin, you will normally find a combination of acne ingredients with a mixture of natural emollients and skin soothing properties.

Usually , it takes about six to eight weeks before the initial results will be seen and even if the product is effective in removing the acne, it is not guaranteed to be permanent, continued treatment is often necessary as a preventative measure.

If you didn't know, acne is also very common among adults. And many times its effects can be much more harmful than for teens!

I’m pretty sure that when most people think about acne, they come to the conclusion that this health problem affects people during adolescence. And although many people who have had acne as teens are no longer afflicted by it; however, the number of people who do battle adult acne may surprise you. In addition, while teens do make up a large percentage of the acne-suffering population, it is more prevalent in adults than one might think.

It is also becoming clear that the physical, psychological, and social effects of this condition are still frequent occurances in adults, and can cause many problems. Also, according to recent studies, acne is an increasing problem among adults, but the reasons for this are not always clear.

Perhaps the most negative effects that acne causes are not only physical but psychological effects as well. Whether acne strikes during adolescence and continues on into adulthood, or simply strikes after the age of 30, the physical and psychological effects can be long-lasting and cause problems. Dermatologists say that adult acne is more likely to leave permanent scars because as the skin ages and loses collagen, it’s more difficult for it to bounce back and the scars are, therefore, often unable to heal as they would in younger skin. Physical scars aren’t the only ones left by adult acne; psychological scars could be even worse.

There are many misconceptions that are associated with psychological scarring. Therefore, it can be much harder to trace, and sometimes more difficult to deal with than physical scarring. For example, it has been believed that the psychological effects of adult acne are easier to deal with because adults are able to accept the condition better than teens. In reality, the ramifications of these scars can be severe because acne has been perceived to be a condition specific to teens. And although many of us know this isn’t the case, yet many people are often afraid to admit they have adult acne and seek treatment.

Things are changing though. As perceptions are shifting, and more people are recognizing acne as a problem not only among teens but also among adults, more people are going to dermatologists for treatment. And these are really good news.

Many adults are now seeking relief from prescribed medications as well as from over-the-counter products to treat the condition. Sales of these products have increased, along with the awareness of adult acne.

Because adult acne is reported to be on the rise, doctors are now starting to consider the special causes and unique effects of this condition on older patients. As public awareness continues to increase, people may be more likely to seek treatment.

One of the reasons for this awakening is in part thanks to the wealth of information that is now available about adult acne. People who is affected with this health condition can have access to this information and learn more about this desease and that way have a much better understanding of it and have the knowledge on how to combat its problems. More care is also being given to the psychological effects of adult acne. Because adults, like teens, are often affected by what those around them think and how they are perceived, many often stay away from attending social events. Understanding what is causing adult acne is the key to its treatment and possible cure. If there are treatments for the physical problems caused by acne, there is no reason why the social and psychological ones cannot be treated as well!

For some people, getting back acne is not as bad as getting facial acne.It is bad enough when you suffer from acne on your face, but what about back acne. After all, skin imperfections on one’s back are easier to hide under a layer of clothing – unless he or she has to wear a swimsuit to spend time at the beach or pool. In such cases, back acne can cause feelings of self-consciousness; no matter how attractive a person’s body is, having zits or pimples on one’s back can be disconcerting, not to mention uncomfortable.

The causes of back acne – or “bacne” – are pretty much similar to what causes pimples to emerge on other parts of the body. The back is filled with sebaceous glands, which secrete a kind of oil called sebum. If excessive amounts of this oil are produced and not removed immediately, the pores and the hair follicles on a person’s back will become clogged, which then encourages bacteria to attack and inflame skin tissue. Back acne is the result of this. Chest and back acne is more prevalent in males. Back acne is sometimes more difficult to treat because some of the lesions can become deep and inflamed.

It is then very important to make sure that one’s back is kept clean and free of dead cells in order to prevent back acne. Regular bathing and exfoliation is important. It is also advisable to keep the skin free from perspiration; wiping one’s back dry after strenuous activity or changing a sweat-soaked shirt as soon as possible would discourage pimples on the back from forming.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the pressure and chafing that results from wearing tight clothing or carrying heavy backpacks can contribute to back acne. Perhaps it would be best then to wear looser-fitting clothes at least some of the time, or try alternating the use of backpacks with other types of bags – those that do not put weight or pressure on the back. A person does not have to totally give up wearing tight clothes or using backpacks; he or she just has to learn to balance them with the use of other objects to minimize the risk of getting back acne.

Mild cases of bacne can be treated with over-the-counter medications and other skin care formulations. Some of these medications contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Those interested in natural back acne remedies may try using soaps, creams, and ointments that contain ingredients such as tea tree oil, neem, and basil. Another thing that might be able to help treat the back acne is a mixture of lye soap ad tea tree oil. These herb extracts are beneficial for those suffering from nearly all types of acne because they have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties. In addition to helping treat pimples, they can also restore the skin’s suppleness and smoothness.

More severe cases of back acne, or infected pimples that have developed into pustules or cysts, will require the specialized care of a dermatologist or other skin specialists. If the back acne is stubborn in nature, a doctor may may prescribe for you an oral prescription of antibiotics like tetracycline or minocycline. Left untreated, these blemishes will develop into deep and unsightly scars that may be permanent. Taking measures to prevent and treat back acne is always in your best interest; your skin will look and feel good, and your back will thank you for it.

Acne affects an estimated 17 million people in the United States, and most often appears during the teenage years. It is a chronic disorder caused by the excess oil production from sebaceous glands which cause the skin’s hair follicles to become plugged, inflamed, and sometimes infected. Contrary to popular belief, acne breakouts are not caused by eating chocolate or greasy foods. While there is no known cure for acne, it can be regulated with daily facial hygiene and/or medications.

Teens are the most common age group suffering from acne, caused by hormonal changes that stimulate the sebaceous (oil producing) skin glands. Teenagers are faced with the many problems of growing up, and acne can be an added burden that interferes with a young person’s self esteem and confidence. The unfortunate reality is that acne isn’t just an affliction that affects teenagers. While most teens will “grow out” of this awkward and uncomfortable phase, there are some who can’t seem to get away from acne problems. There are many people who will continue to suffer from acne well into adulthood.

Adult acne refers to acne that begins or continues from teen years into adulthood. Surprisingly, this skin problem is extremely common and can occur at any age. It is estimated that about 25% of adult men and up to 50% of adult women have had acne during their adult lives. Women who have gone through their teen years almost pimple free may develop persistent adult-onset acne as they get older. Adult acne is commonly misdiagnosed as rosacea, a long lasting, non-scarring skin condition of the face. Generally, treatment for adult acne is no different from the usual treatment for acne.

We know more about the treatment of acne today more than ever. And after you find a treatment that works, use it regularly. For best results, any treatment you undertake should not be lapsed even for a day to get a better and faster result. The duration of treatment is determined by the severity of your acne and your body’s response to the sessions.

Acne is the most prevalent skin affliction in the world. It affects nearly 85% of people between the ages of 12-24, and is a surprisingly common problem for people over 25 years of age. This affliction can be mild for some and harsh for others, but is a frustrating problem regardless of its severity. If you are suffering from acne, the first thing you need to do is locate the cause and stop it. Taking preventative measures in conjunction with a daily acne treatment is the key to healthy, acne-free skin.

Prescriptions drugs to help treat acne can have some severe and unpleasant side-effects. And for some, these medications are too expensive to be a viable option. Fortunately, there are many inexpensive and effective home remedies for treating acne. Not all of these remedies will work for everyone, but as long as you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients, you’ve got nothing to lose by giving them a shot. Complement any acne treatment with drinking lots of water and regular exercise that oxygenates and refreshes the skin.

By using things you might already have around the house, you can treat your acne in an all-natural way. Here’s are some treatments that you can try, probably without having to buy anything

Mix together ground nutmeg and milk. Apply to your face and leave on for 1 or 2 hours.

Apply a paste of honey and cinnamon powder to your pimples and leave on over night. It’s recommended that you do this nightly for 2 weeks.

Grind some orange peel and add to water. Apply directly on and around your blemishes and leave on for about 20 minutes.

Apply fresh mint juice to your skin—it can help with acne as well as insect bites.

Remove blackheads with a paste made from ground radish seeds and water

One way to reduce the physical appearance of acne is to reduce swelling. You can try applying toothpaste (paste, not gel) to your blemishes and leaving it on overnight. You can also “ice down” your blemishes before going to bed.

Another way to start you acne treatment at home, if you prefer not to see a doctor, is to begin a proper, daily face-washing regime. It is possible to over wash your skin, and this will only serve to aggravate your acne. Twice a day is probably is ideal, although others suggest three times.

The first time you wash your face should be when you wake up in the morning. First, make sure your hands are thoroughly cleaned. Then wet your face with warm water and wash with a medicated soap. Washcloths can be havens for bacteria, so don’t use one to scrub with. Instead, rinse your face with clear water and gently pat dry with a soft, clean towel.

Wash your face again before you go to bed. Basically, just repeat the morning cleaning ritual. If you notice dry spots, you can apply a moisturizer that’s formulated for acne. Some people recommend a third mid-day wash, following the same process as the morning wash. You can give it try. It might improve your skin, but you should closely observe the effects it has to make sure it’s not worsening things.
